The Darjeeling Polytechnic, which is located in Kurseong Sub Division, was established in the year 1964 and presently is the only Polytechnic offering Diploma Engineering courses in the two Hill Districts (Darjeeling and Kalimpong) of West Bengal.

From Secretary, Academic Council’s Desk

 
 

The Academic Council, which earlier used to be known as Teachers Council, is a body formulated by all the teaching faculties of this Institute as Members and headed by the Principal / Officer-In-Charge as the Chairman of the committee. The Secretary is the prime functionary who handles most the activities of this Council with active support from the Head of departments from all streams and all the members of the council. The main function of this council is to guide and supervise the functioning of all kinds of academic activity held in the Institute.


Some of the major activities handled by the Academic Council are as under:

  1. Active participation in admission procedure and record maintenance of students of all semester.

  2. Smooth conduct of all kinds of examinations (internal; semester; sessional/practical examinations etc.).

  3. Allotment of duty roster, management of examination hall, maintenance of students’ attendance; question papers; syllabus etc. during each examination.

  4. Handling student’s problems related with their academics for present as well as passed out students.

  5. Overall supervision of class routine; students’ class attendance; question papers etc.


Other than the above mentioned activities, the Secretary, Academic Council is also a member of other committees of the Institute, such as:

  1. Purchase Committee

  2. Anti-Ragging Committee

  3. Grievance Cell

  4. Students Welfare Committee

  5. Disciplinary Committee etc.


I, being the Secretary of Academic Council of this Institute for the past more than 15 years, have tried my best to extend all kinds of support and help to all concerned. Further, I would like to convey to all, that, the Academic Council is always ready and eager to assist anyone whoever is in need of any kind of assistance related to academic activity.
